Pondicherry House is a traditional Northumbrian farmhouse over 200 years old, in 2 acres of private, quiet garden and woodland. Set high on the valley side, directly overlooking the Coquet River, it offers “amazing” views of Northumberland National Park and Simonside Hills.
Both the Apartment and Cabin offer unique & high quality accommodation in the special location. Each set in their own private and secluded space, within the larger 2 acre gardens and woodland.
The Apartment is entirely self contained accommodation, with its own entrance and private courtyard & gardens. It offers period character & charm, with modern luxuries and convenience.
The Cabin is a luxury woodland lodge for 2 people. Built to offer outstanding panoramic views of the hills, river and woodland; complete with kitchen and shower room.
An ideal base for local walking or exploring further afield. A pleasant 20 min walk into the beautiful village of Rothbury, & numerous walks onto the hills or along the river, straight from your doorstep.

The view across to the Simonside Hills is sublime and will be much missed – has an ethereal quality when the cloud hangs low in the valley. Loved waking up… read more in the super comfy bed, pulling back the curtains and marvelling at the scenery outside. Watching the sheep being moved had a hypnotic effect and proved most relaxing.
We were glad of the wood-burner to take the chill off the autumn evenings – although for October we were lucky with the weather, enjoying 2 days of lovely sunshine, some mixed days and just a little drizzly rain.
We bought plenty of books with us, but those arriving with nothing to read are in for a treat. Can imagine children having a whale of a time here with games and toys galore, and the higgledy piggledy bunkbeds looked great fun.
This is a paradise for walkers including great walks from the house. Plenty of maps and guidebooks provided to help to choose. Our walk from Pondicherry House, through Thropton and then up along the ridge atop the Simonside Hills was fantastic, and beer and cake when we reached Rothbury felt to be much deserved. On another occasion we walked for hours in the Cheviot Hills, almost as far as the border, with just sheep and birds for company – not another human in sight. Found a perfect pub at the end of our walk up and beyond The Drake’s Stone – The Star Inn at Harbottle, with a wood-fired pizza oven, and an Italian chef serving the most delicious food and good beer – perfect end to a great walk
The garden is fun to explore – while I didn’t get any artistic inspiration in the art shed, it was a lovely spot to read on a sunny afternoon.
Andy and Lyd were welcoming without being intrusive – great to know they were there if we needed them. All in all a fantastic place to be.
