About
The house dates back over 200 years; Pondicherry can be found on an old map in All Saints parish church dated 1816. However, although the original house is very traditional, the name Pondicherry is not a Northumbrian name. It originates from South East India, an area fought over by the French, Dutch and British colonialists; it remained a French colonial possession until 1962. Occupied by the English in 1778 & 1793, the story goes that someone in a military role returned to England around that time and re-named their farm after the region they served in.
Our history is not so ancient, we’ve lived at Pondicherry for nearly 20 years and raised 4 children in the very pleasant & spacious surroundings. All but one of our children have now left and we have used the space convert into a comfortable apartment with some old period charm in a very special location.
We are very pleased to share this space with visitors, and hope our guests enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the location, as we have done.
